5 Minute Mummy Make-Up

Hello, and a very happy 2016 to you! I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and New Years break and we are all looking forward to what this year has in store for us.

Today I thought I would bring you a ‘lifestyle’ post, if that’s not your thing, no worries, I have been sewing quite a bit over the last month so there are sewing related posts planned for next Monday and for later in the month so check back again soon! I’ve also added Amazon affiliate links to this post. It won’t cost you anything to click on them, but I may make some commission if you end up buying anything. I do honestly love all the products I’m talking about today and have been using most of them for years. Just thought I should be totally transparent.

As any new mum (and seasoned mum too of course!) knows, time is a luxury you kissed goodbye to once you had your little bundle of joy. Another thing you probably kissed goodbye to was looking like a normal functioning human being! I was never really much of a make-up wearer before having my baby, but I have found that even putting on a small amount of make-up can 1. make me look like I had more than 2 hours cumulative sleep the night before and 2. just make me feel a little bit more like the old ‘me’, both of which boosts my moral and confidence. I have fine-tuned my routine down to an art and can now get my ‘face’ on in less than 5 minutes while Luke is either napping or distracted by Sophie (if you don’t know who Sophie is, you are not a new mum!). Would you like to know my routine? Read on!

  1. After following my morning skincare routine, I apply a thin layer of L’Oreal Nude Magique Anti Redness CC Cream (that’s the green one if you are looking for it in the shops!). This, for me is essentially sleep in a bottle! It’s thin enough that it doesn’t look like I’ve caked on foundation, but it evens out my skin tone, hides (most) redness and also smooths out the skin texture too. It has an SPF12 protection too which is good because my current moisturiser doesn’t have any. I  have been using this CC cream for years now and I can honestly say it is my favourite quick-fix make-up look. I would, however, warn that it is a little dark in colour, so if you are very pale I don’t think this would be right for you. For my colouring it just makes me look like I have caught the sun (and not been tangoed!).
  2. I follow this up with a little bit of concealer, mainly under the eyes, but a little bit around the nose and edges of my mouth too. My current favourite is Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser which I find covers under-eye circles pretty well and is easy to apply.
  3. Then its a couple of quick coats of mascara – just choose your favourite. I’ve gone with Rimmel Wake Me Up mascara, but to be honest I’m not a huge fan so I’m on the look out for something else. Preferably something a little less ‘wet’ that will dry quicker (any recommendations, please let me know!). At the moment, but top tip is to just brush on the mascara as best you can, and then when it has dried get a cotton bud and wipe away any that transferred either above or below your eyes – much faster than carefully applying the stuff – as I said, time is a luxury these days guys!
  4. Follow with a sweep of blush – I’ve always been a fan of Bourjois Little Round Pot Blushers, and I’m loving Rose De Jaspe at the moment.
And that is me! Now, if I’m feeling fancy, and Luke is having a longer nap than usual, I might treat myself to a little lipstick, eyeshadow and perfume (I’m not breastfeeding anymore, I wasn’t a fan of using perfume while I was). At the moment I’m really liking Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm Stain in Sultry on my lips. It’s a pretty dark colour and I’ve never really been one for lipstick, but this stuff stays put a long time without feeling too dry on the lips and I really like it – I wish they had more colours that I liked but Sultry is the only colour that I think would suit me. For a really quick and easy eyeshadow, I’ve discovered Maybelline Colour Tattoo 24 Hour Eye Shadow (in Permanent Taupe) – seriously, just dab this on with your finger and you get a really nice gentle smokey eye which lasts pretty well, and takes no time at all to do! My perfume of choice is Elie Saab, which I wore on my wedding day, and took away with me on my honeymoon, so it brings back some really lovely memories every time I wear it.
Some other mummy essentials in the photos above: Dry Shampoo (!), A teething necklace, and a Jelly Cat bunny.
What routine do you follow and do you have any time-saving products that you would recommend? I’d love to know!
