#throwbackthursday to my birthday make two years ago! I made the most gorgeous pair of paperbag waisted trousers using McCalls 7726 and a lot of tweaking (tapered the legs in a lot, change the location of the zip, made many toiles 🤪).
My top is a self drafted pattern as I had a vision and couldn’t find anything close to what I wanted.
Love this outfit so much, and it absolutely made my night when a random lady in the bar came up to me to tell me how much she loved my outfit, and my trousers were fabulous (I may have gushed that I had made them...and she may have thought me a little crazy, but 🤷‍♀️💁🏻‍♀️💃🤣)

Next up on my sewing table is something quite different! I’m planning on making the @tillybuttons Ness skirt with some green Ventana twill from my stash (bought from @thedabhand )(it’s a more olive colour than in this photo... it’s so dark today it’s so hard to take photos!).
I’m looking forward to getting this skirt made up as I have quite a few things in my wardrobe (and future sewing plans) that it will go with. But, I need your advice... what colour tights do I wear with a green skirt?! 🤔🤪

Here it is, my Birthday Dress! This is dress 120

Here it is, my Birthday Dress!
This is dress 120 from an old Burda magazine 12/2011 (I’ve no idea if there’s a special # system for burda patterns - please let me know if there is!) made with many meters of the Field of Flowers Lady McElroy viscose from my shop.
Making a Burda magazine pattern is always more of a challenge than regular patterns, with the crazy tangled mess of pattern lines to trace, and sparse instructions. I would say you absolutely need to have several garments under your belt before you attempt a Burda pattern as the instructions miss out many tiny steps that they obviously assume you know - like understitching your facings, and how to actually insert that zip (which I ended up omitting anyway)!
Despite that, the dress came together beautifully and I really enjoyed the magical way the crazy shape of the front piece just fitted together perfectly once you sewed ‘this bit’ and pleated ‘that’. It was very satisfying 😆 So the patterns are very well drafted 👌
The dress has a incredibly deep v neck, deeper than I expected, but thankfully the tie front sort of helps to keep it in place. Two gigantic ties at the front are twisted, brought to the back and tied in a knot. I actually chopped about 1m off the length of each tie because they were ridiculously long (so you could tie a giant bow, which I didn’t like). They were still long enough to trail on the stairs and catch a playful kitty on the end though 😹
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to wear this dress out for the birthday dinner I had planned (due to new COVID restrictions), but when things calm down again I look forward to wearing it and feeling very glamorous 💁🏻‍♀️😆

Thank you all so much for the many many birthday wishes yesterday! I had a really wonderful day filled with fun surprises, family, good food and love. I could ask for nothing more.
Unfortunately Covid restrictions have meant that my weekend plans have been cancelled. But my birthday dress is finished and I shall be wearing it regardless!! I’ll try and get some photos to share with you all tomorrow.
As for this photo, I might have treated myself to a little birthday present - a sewing themed jumper from @joanieclothing - how could I resist?!! LOVE it!!!!
