Join us for the “Adult and Child: Sew Together” workshop—a perfect opportunity to bond while learning a new skill!
In this 2.5-hour class, you and your child (ages 8+) will each create your own beautiful book sleeve, working side by side. This workshop is designed to teach both of you how to confidently use a sewing machine and sew perfect seams, making it ideal for beginners.
It’s a wonderful way to spend quality time together, share the creative process, and experience the joy of making something by hand. By the end of the class, you’ll both walk away with your own unique project—and some special memories made together!

YOUR PROJECT:
BOOK SLEEVES
In our workshop you will both sew your own, fully lined and padded book sleeves. Perfect for protecting your book in your bag. The book sleeves will fit most standard paperbacks and also some e-readers (with a looser fit). The book sleeves include a sewn-in ribbon at the opening to help keep your book safely tucked inside.
There will be a number of gorgeous fabrics to choose from. The images in the listing are just a couple of examples.
Please note: the book sleeves are all one size and unfortunately it is not possible to make a custom size due to time restraints – but once you know how to make one, you can make them again and again at home and to any dimensions you like!
You Will Learn:
- the basics of how to use a sewing machine
- how to use padded fusible interfacing
- how to pin and cut fabric
- how to sew seams and lock in stitching
- what a seam allowance is!
- how to sew a fully lined book sleeve
Please note: To save time the sewing machines will be already threaded up and ready to sew. You will be given an introduction and guidance on how to use the sewing machine but this class is not a complete how-to on using a sewing machine. If you would prefer to learn ALL about using a sewing machine please book onto the Sewing Taster Workshop.
WHAT’S INCLUDED:
- All materials needed to make your book sleeves
- Use of the excellent class sewing machines and all sewing tools required
- Tea, coffee, refreshments and biscuits

- Nothing!
Due to time restrictions it is not possible to bring your own sewing machine to this class.

This collaboration adds another layer to the experience, allowing you to work closely together while creating something special.
